Tragedy or rug-pull? Inside the collapse of a ‘charitable’ NFT project

Image
Orica NFT's charity efforts have succeeded, but its token holders have not, and up until now, its co-founder was nowhere to be found. Launched in November 2021, non-fungible token (NFT) marketplace Orica (ORI) held itself as an "ethical platform" benefitting artists, collectors, and charities alike. At the time, the organization was involved in prominent projects such as building a school in Uganda to aiding victims of human trafficking, to helping Ukraine.  But less than two years later, the project’s founders have disappeared, and the marketplace’s user interface has gone offline. All that remains are the project's charity efforts, which proved to be genuine, in tandem with allegations from disgruntled users that the developers orchestrated a rug-pull. In a new revelation, co-founder Danial Zey breaks his year-long silence, not only denying all allegations and insisting the project was 'hacked,' but also claims that the project is still ongoing. SPS discusses challenges of building GameFi amid crypto winter

Image
Despite tough times for the industry, the blockchain MOBA game reached 200k downloads after just two months. Amidst a drastic decline in coin prices, shifting player behavior, and hard-to-maintain tokenomics, it's been a difficult year for many GameFi developers. While more established franchises, such as Axie Infinity, have held ground, other lesser-known projects like Elexir have mostly pulled the plug, with a lack of viable game designs being unable to compensate for the "Fi" element in GameFi. That said, one project which, despite running into all challenges , experienced by its peers, appears to have gained traction anyway. In early February, Blockchain multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game Superpower Squad (SPS) surpassed 200,000 downloads on the App Store and Google Play. The game previously launched in Dec. 2022 and surpassed the 100,000 download milestone mid-January.  Superpower Squad game poster (Source: SPS) SPS Features up to 20 players competing in-...

Vitalik Buterin divulges the ‘largest remaining challenge’ for Ethereum

Image
While the concept of stealth addresses appears complex in theory, Buterin previously described it as a “low-tech approach” compared to other Ethereum privacy solutions. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has shared a possible solution to what he describes as the “largest remaining challenge” foEthereum — privacy. In a blog post on Jan. 20, Buterin acknowledged the need to come up with a privacy solution because by default, all information that goes onto a “public blockchain” is public too. He then arrived at the concept of “stealth addresses” — which he said can potentially anonymize peer-to-peer transactions, nonfungible token (NFT) transfers, and Ethereum Name Service (ENS) registrations, protecting users.  An incomplete guide to stealth addresses:https://t.co/21Q18BrD30 — vitalik.eth (@VitalikButerin) January 20, 2023 In the blog post, Buterin explained how on-chain transactions can be carried out between two parties with anonymity.  Firstly, a user looking to receive assets wil...
